LEXUS LF-30 ELECTRIFIED IN TOKYO MS'19

BRAVE, ARTISTIC, FUTURISTIC

These three words inspired the talented design team at EDÇ to create a stunning vision of the future for Lexus, the LF-30 Electrified Concept.

Created for the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show and Lexus’s 30th Anniversary, the designers were given the license to dream by Lexus Design, and starting from a blank sheet of paper, we aimed to challenge traditional preconceptions of what a luxury performance car could be by utilizing an entirely new Electric Vehicle architecture.

This direction changed not only the proportion and surfacing, but the way we interact with technology, interior space, materials, and the driving experience itself.

The In-Wheel motors were the starting point to convey power through the body’s form. The Speed Lounge profile shows speed, performance, and amazing space for the rear passengers. Transitional contrast surfacing of the exterior, moving from sensual and fluid at the front, to shear and crystalline at the rear, pushes the definition of L-Finesse, Lexus’s Design Philosophy, to the next era.

As an EV no longer requiring a grille, Lexus’s trademark Spindle Core front identity becomes the architecture of the vehicle, flowing from front to rear, inside and out.

The interior, inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Tazuna, which is the connection of rider and horse via the reins, allows a driver focused cockpit symbiotically combined with a first class front passenger experience, and an Active Zen rear lounge seating space.

’Moving from sensual and fluid at the front, to shear and crystalline at the rear.’

A dynamic three ringed holographic meter display framed by dramatic wings surrounds the steering controls and seamlessly connects driver to the road ahead.

The seats, each stand-alone works of art, are both lightweight and strong, enveloping the occupant in gorgeous and sustainable materials.

The AR HMI graphics represent the universe being inside the vehicle, and above the rear passengers, continuing this theme, is the Star Gate, an AR navigation system inspired by ancient mariners.

Finally, the entire team is proud of the fact that this concept has helped inspire the future of the Lexus EV deign direction.
